Introduction

Jeff Burgess and Associates are proud to present our latest line of storage products. The storage products from innovative manufacturer - Fibrenetix offer unique features to the Video industry. The Qubex and E- series features 4 Gigabit and Ultra-320 SCSI host connectivity utilizing the latest in SATA II disk technology. Both systems are optimized to meet the demanding require ments of sequential data transfers meeting HD throughput rates and beyond by the combination of hardware and advanced caching algorithms. The Qubex is purpose designed for the A/V environment due to its compact form factor, low noise generation and active cooling system.

Product Features

The Qubex supports 4.5 TB of raw storage with 6 hot-swappable drive bays and the 16 bay E- series range offers up to 12TB with 16 drive bays. Both product ranges are available with dual 4 gigabit Fibre Channel interfaces. Redundant power supplies and comprehensive RAID protection is included as standard. RAID levels offered are 0,1,0+1,3,5,6 and JBOD. All redundant components are hot swappable.

Systems are qualified and benchmarked within A/V environments using complimentary A/V hardware to ensure maximum compatibility when deployed in the field.

Intelligent Monitoring and Configuration

In addition to audible alarms and visual indications the systems feature intelligent SMART monitoring features along with an easy to configure Graphical User Interface (GUI) program which can be accessed via any industry standard web browser utility. The GUI wizard prompts the user with context sensitive selections allowing RAID volumes to be created with minimal delays. Volumes can be mapped to single or multiple channels allowing the user to optimize the systems for reliability as well as performance.

Pro-active alerts

The systems continuously monitor their components for voltage levels, temperature and functionality, if any irregularities are discovered, the system will email designated users thus allowing pro-active rather than reactive actions to be taken.

Workstation environments

Typical workstation environments will use a Direct Attached connection to a single or dual ported HBA for optimal throughput.

Data Sharing

Larger systems have a need for data sharing and for performance reasons this is normally performed in a Storage Area Network (SAN) environment. In the example shown below four high performance workstations are connection to a Fibrenetix 16 bay E2 system through a multiple port Fibre Channel switch.

In this instance the storage configuration was to create two eight drive volumes and map each of the volumes to each of the E2’s ports. Both ports of the E2 are shown connected to the switch. Each workstation can then ssanwith e2.jpgaccess one or both of the E2’s volumes. In addition the workstations could also feature dual ported HBAs to increase performance although this would increase the switch port count. Data sharing software would also be required to ensure that coordinated access to the data takes place. The nature of a SAN is that the workload can be easily distributed and divided, so for example two of the systems might be working on one set of files and the other editing another set.  Workstations can be denied or granted access as needed.
